A Pumpkin, a Little Surprise, and Lots of Curiosity
There’s a special kind of magic in childhood when something unexpected happens—and suddenly, an ordinary day becomes an adventure.
At PMCCP, a broken pumpkin sparked just that kind of magic.
As the children gathered around the bright orange pumpkin, its broken-open shell revealed a whole new world to explore. Inside were pale seeds, stringy strands, and a soft, squishy center just waiting to be investigated. Little hands reached in, fingers carefully picking up seeds, touching the slippery pulp, and discovering what was hidden beneath the pumpkin’s smooth skin.
Curiosity quickly turned into excitement. One child held up seeds for a closer look, sharing the discovery with friends. Others leaned in, eager to touch, explore, and see what was inside. There were smiles, wonder-filled expressions, and plenty of enthusiastic investigation as the children explored the pumpkin together.
What might have seemed like a broken pumpkin became an invitation to discover.
Through this simple, hands-on experience, the children were doing so much more than exploring a fall favorite. They were using their senses, observing textures, examining seeds, asking questions, sharing discoveries, and learning from one another. Each touch and each new finding offered another opportunity to wonder about the natural world.
And, of course, there was so much joy in the process! The children’s excitement was contagious as they gathered around the pumpkin, eager to see what their friends had found and to make discoveries of their own.
At PMCCP, learning often begins with moments like these—not with a perfect plan or a polished activity, but with an unexpected opportunity to explore. A pumpkin that broke open became a shared adventure filled with curiosity, connection, and delight.
This October, we’re celebrating the beauty of letting children get their hands dirty, follow their curiosity, and discover the world one little surprise at a time.
