PMCCP Alum Rides the STP!
Shrimayi, one of our former students, is tackling the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic (STP) this July—all 206 miles of it—and she's chosen to raise money for PMCCP along the way. Shrimayi was a PMCCP student from 2016 to 2019, and she's heading into 7th grade this fall.
When we asked her why she wanted to support PMCCP through her ride, Shrimayi recalled building forts out of wooden blocks and taking trips to our local pea patch. But most of all, she remembers the love she felt: sitting in circles with classmates for birthday celebrations with fruit popsicles, and her teachers (our cook) making her favorite meals like fish and chicken curry. She said:
“This STP bike ride fundraiser is a meaningful opportunity for me to give back, so that other children and families can experience the same magic that PMCCP gave me."
Her parents echoed that sentiment, sharing how PMCCP became a true family for them as newcomers to Seattle 10 years ago. Her dad told us:
“PMMCP not only gave Shrimayi an exceptional early education in math and reading, but also in compassion, community, equity, and kindness. Through experiences like collecting donations for the Pike Place Market Food Bank, she learned what it means to care for others and be a thoughtful future citizen of the world.”
Watching our students grow up and practice the values they learn in our classrooms is one of the best parts of what we do. Shrimayi is living proof that these lessons take root and shape who our kids become, even years after they leave PMCCP. That's what makes her choice to give back so meaningful, and why we're so proud to support her ride.
Shrimayi is hoping to raise $1000 to support PMCCP’s mission by race day, July 11. If you'd like to cheer her on with a donation (any amount helps!), you can support her ride here:
Thanks for being part of our community, and go Shrimayi!
