Our Approach to Children’s Learning
“The program and teachers work to help our children socially and emotionally, teaching respect, caring, and kindness towards others, and by making learning fun.”
At Pike Market Child Care & Preschool, we believe that young children are capable, curious, and eager to learn. Our approach to early childhood education is rooted in the idea that children learn best when they feel safe, respected, and encouraged to explore the world around them.
Child-Centered Reflective Practice
Our teachers use a method called Child-Centered Reflective Practice to guide learning. By getting to know each child — within their family, culture, and peer group — teachers plan and adapt the classroom environment, daily routines, and activities to support each child’s interests and growth.
This responsive style is one of our key approaches to learning. It ensures that education is not “one size fits all,” but instead reflects each child’s unique needs and strengths.
A Curriculum for the Whole Child
Because children learn best through play and discovery, our early childhood education curriculum is woven into every part of the daily rhythm. Each moment — from mealtime to group activities to quiet reflection — becomes an opportunity for growth.
Our curriculum supports the whole child, with learning goals in:
Identity and Culture – celebrating diversity and belonging
Building Relationships – developing empathy, respect, and kindness
Physical Development – strengthening bodies and exploring the five senses
Growing Up Healthy – fostering wellness and healthy habits
Communicating – developing language, listening, and self-expression
Learning About Our World – exploring reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and the arts
