Child-Centered Reflective Practice

“This amazing school has given our children a wonderful foundation in life. Here, they learn to care for the people around them and themselves, and, it has enriched their curiosity to give them a love of learning! We can't think of a better place to send our children!”

The Cycle of Reflective Practice

At Pike Market Child Care & Preschool, curriculum is everything that happens during our time with children. Through reflective practice in teaching, our educators place students at the center of classroom life, honoring their cultures, languages, and unique identities. This responsive approach creates opportunities for every child to grow and develop in meaningful ways.

Children become active participants in their own learning — following their curiosity, sharing discoveries, and inviting peers into rich webs of investigation and creation.

Reflective Teaching in Action

As children explore, teachers carefully observe and document their experiences. This reflective teaching practice makes learning visible — to the children themselves, to their families, and to the teaching team.

Documentation then guides curriculum planning, helping teachers design activities and environments that reflect children’s interests and deepen their understanding. Studies may last an hour, a day, or even several months, as children pursue investigations in literacy, science, math, technology, and culturally relevant creative expression.

In this way, it is children’s natural enthusiasm and curiosity that fuel the learning process — while teachers act as thoughtful partners, guiding growth through reflection and adaptation.
