Reflecting Together: an Anti-Bias Education Film Screening & Conversation

Thursday, June 16, 2022
7:00 - 8:30pm

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 7:00-8:30 PMCCP has asked Debbie LeeKeenan to facilitate a conversation after a virtual screening of Reflecting on Anti-Bias Education in Action: the Early Learning Years. Debbie is a co-producer of this award-winning documentary, as well as a nationally recognized author, presenter, and leader in anti-bias education. She worked with PMCCP 2018-2020 as a part of a Satterberg Grant.

Teachers at PMCCP have been engaged in anti-bias education and anti-racist work since 1991.  This film explores some of the ways anti-bias education and anti-racist work can show up in early learning settings.

At PMCCP it means finding lots of ways to get to know children and families and their strengths, interests, experiences, and values. It means ensuring school environments and materials reflect and represent all families in authentic ways. It means both emergent and planned curriculum and activities that help children meet the 4 goals of anti-bias education. How this looks should be different, in each classroom, every year, because the children, families and teachers change!

Foundationally, it means teachers who intentionally and consistently reflect to explore and educate themselves about their own social identities and biases. This is essential, complex and sometimes uncomfortable work. PMCCP continues to engage in this work and invite families to it as well.

When teachers and families commit to the work together, powerful positive change can happen for children, families and communities.
