Child-Centered Reflective Practice
“This amazing school has given our children a wonderful foundation in life. Here, they learn to care for the people around them and themselves, and, it has enriched their curiosity to give them a love of learning! We can't think of a better place to send our children!”
At PMCCP, we see curriculum as everything that happens during our time together with the children. PMCCP educators place students at the center of the daily life of the classroom including their culture and language(s). In doing so, all sorts of opportunities to grow and develop in complex ways become available to every child.
Children become experts in identifying their own learning, and in that place of excitement and anticipation, draw other children into their web of investigating, uncovering, identifying, and creating.
As children interact with each other and the learning environment, PMCCP educators document what they observe. Learning documentation makes learning visible--to the children, the families, and the team of teachers.
The children provide us direction for our curriculum planning that draws on their capacity to delve deeply into literacy, science, math, and technology, as well as many layers of culturally relevant creative expression. Child-led investigations (or studies) may last an hour, a day, a week, or may develop into an in-depth investigation that can take place over several months. It is the children’s enthusiasm and curiosity that fuels the learning process.
